To celebrate the 50th St Magnus International Festival, we held a poetry competition inspired by the 2026 theme, AIR — the air we breathe, the wind and the oxygen of life.
This booklet features the winning poem, The Buirds o the Air by William Hershaw, alongside nine highly commended poems. The entries were judged by poets Gerda Stevenson and John Gallas.
A celebration of poetry, the Scots language and the written word, reflecting the Festival’s long-standing connection with literature.
