Francis Poulenc                  Trio

A wide ranging programme brings us a new piece which is the winner of the St Magnus Composer Competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary.  Alongside this are short works by two eminent Scottish composers and the atmospheric trio by festival founder, Peter Maxwell Davies, which captures his visit to the island in 2002.  The quirky music of Milhaud brings us incidental music to a play by Anouilh "A Traveller without baggage” and the programme completes with a new arrangement of Poulenc's Trio originally for piano, oboe and bassoon.

Hebrides Ensemble is an award-winning Scottish collective of musicians that commissions, performs and records the best of contemporary classical chamber music. For thirty-five years we have been at the leading edge of Scottish cultural life, creating a body of work that is a vital element in our country’s musical legacy.
