VOCES THULES

From Sturlunga - Battle of Iceland

Drömdi mik en dröm

Hverjir vöktu mér varman dreyra

Varizt þér og varizt þér

Gríðr munk gumnum héðra

Ríðum allir rógstefnu til

Sefr þú úti

From Grettis Saga

Gekk ég í gljúfrið dökkva

Þessi karl á þingið reið

From Egil’s Saga

Höfuðlausn,  Egill Skallagrímsson

Folk songs (Trad.)

Skipafregn

Ný upp rann þín sumarsól

Krummi svaf í klettagjá

Mína þá mund’eg þenja vængi út

Lysthúskvæði

Hani, krummi, hundur, svín

A dazzling selection of secular medieval poetry and song, drawn from sagas to folk music, bringing to life a rich period in Icelandic creativity.  Founded in 1991, Voces Thules is one of Iceland’s leading early music ensembles, specialising in medieval and Renaissance repertoire as well as contemporary Icelandic compositions.

Voces Thules have toured internationally, performed at major festivals, and taught medieval music at the Iceland Academy of the Arts for 15 years. Their landmark project, Þorlákstíðir (St. Thorlak’s Office), celebrates Iceland’s medieval musical heritage, culminating in a complete recording released on CD and DVD in 2006, which won the Icelandic Music Award.
