The 2026 St Magnus International Festival took place from 19–28 June, celebrating the 50th edition of the Festival.
With the theme AIR, the programme brought together artists from Orkney, Scotland and around the world, with music, theatre, literature, visual arts, traditional music and community events.
Highlights included the creation of a new Festival Orchestra, the use of a new venue at Orkney Auction Mart in Kirkwall, Mozart's Requiem performed by the Festival Chorus, new commissions and collaborations, Festival on Tour events in Rousay and Hoy, and events celebrating the Festival's 50-year history. The Festival also celebrated its historic connections with Iceland, presenting ancient music originating from St Magnus Cathedral alongside a brand-new opera.
The programme also included a memorabilia exhibition, competitions, community and learning projects, and opportunities for emerging artists.
Thank you to all the artists, audiences, volunteers, supporters, funders, sponsors and partners who helped make the 50th Festival possible.
