Laureate of several international competitions, including the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest, the Romanian pianist Mihai Ritivoiu has performed in major halls throughout Europe and Japan. He has given concerts with orchestras such as the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, MDR Leipzig, Romanian Radio Orchestra and George Enescu Philharmonic Bucharest. Here he presents a storytelling programme taking us from mid 19th century Europe to the Orkney Islands where Maxwell Davies brings to life three magicallly-named places on the island on which he lived. The programme ends with Ravel's mightily virtuosic fantasy pieces depicting water nymphs, the hanged man and a goblin.
