A lunchtime concert surveying music by Titans of German music and the coffee house in Leipzig which hosted many of Bach’s secular cantatas including the Coffee Cantata. Located in 14 Katharinen Strasse the coffeehouse, by hosting concerts, allowed ladies to attend though they were not allowed without the music. Bach directed the concerts in this establishment and they were obviously accompanied by food and drink. Here we have a selection of composers associated with the café or repertoire popular in the day.
There will be a 30 minute interval to have lunch and picnic boxes created by the Birsay Bay Tea Rooms can be added to your ticket price for consumption in the interval.
The Picnic lunch box will contain a mixture of sweet and savoury items: quiche or rolls, cakes and scones. Served with tea, coffee or cold drinks. There will be a vegetarian option available. Please be aware that the picnic boxes may contain or come into contact with common allergens, such as dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, soya and wheat.
