George Mackay Brown

Stromness born poet, author and dramatist George Mackay Brown (1921-1996) was one of the Festival's founders.

Many of his works, and adaptations such as Alan Plater's play based on the novel Greenvoe, have been performed at the Festival over the years and in particular settings of many of his poems by Peter Maxwell Davies.
