A selection of Folk and Traditional Songs of Scotland and in arrangements old and new.
Singers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland present a survey of traditional music and folk songs from Scotland arranged and created across the centuries. From the lute books of the Renaissance court to arrangements by Beethoven and Ravel to more recent living composers this delves into a rich strand of composition. The Edinburgh publisher George Thomson commissioned Beethoven, Haydn, Pleyel and Weber to create new arrangements of Scots Songs and this has been an ongoing thread in the history of the folk song tradition in Scotland with composers up to the present day finding wonderful raw material with which to work. Of course the songs with words by Robert Burns have always been pre-eminent in these settings.
