One of the UK’s oldest quartets, and originally the resident quartet in Edinburgh University, the Edinburgh Quartet has an enviable reputation for the commissioning and performing of living composers alongside the standard repertoire.

Geoff Palmer New Work *World Premiere*

Beethoven String Quartet Op. 59 No. 1

In this concert they play two works from the classical repertoire by two giants Haydn and Beethoven. Haydn’s work coming from his last two quartets and Beethoven’s commissioned by Count Rasumovsky and coming from his middle period. Geoff Palmer has written five string quartets to date, and this work co-commissioned by St Magnus International Festival with Sound Festival, Aberdeen will be his sixth.
